Unclear: If you are bleeding at the wrong time this is called breakthrough bleeding and is common on low dose pills. If your bleeding at the right time but it is a painful consider other birth control options. Mirena (levonorgestrel) IUD is a safer choice for someone with lupus as it does not contain any Estrogen. The side effect is light or no periods
