A member asked:

Have ectopic atrial tachycardia.is it someting u are born with or can it develope over time?if the latter what can cause it?came after extreme stress

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Happens: If it is truly ectopic atrial tachycardia as opposed to reentry tachycardia, it IS something that just happens over time and is usually due to extreme stress and/or cardiac stimulants such as nicotine/caffeine/asthma meds/amphetamines. A betablocker often will help. Reentry tachy requires that you're born with the predisposition, & can be treated with meds or ablation.
