A member asked:

Hello. can a functional mri show whether a person is in pain or not?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not necessarily: Pain and imagining anatomy do not always coincide. Patients with very similar anatomy may have very different symptoms. Functional imaging may be more helpful in some patients because neutral position imaging may not appreciate instability and the changes of nerve encroachment/impingement experienced in some positions.
