Gastroenteritis: Viral gastroenteritis usually begins with abdominal discomfort, sometimes associated with fever and/or vomiting, which is later followed by diarrhea. Dehydration can result from the excessive fluid loss, especially in children. Warning signs that something more severe is going on include bloody or bilious (green) vomiting, bloody stools, and severe abdominal pain.
