Pain in snuffbox: When you say impact, do you mean you fell on an out-stretched hand? Or impact like a direct blow? If you fell , yes you could have a broken bone. That is less likely with a direct blow but it is important that you get this wrist and hand xrayed.

Probably.: Continued pain and swelling in snuff box area after an injury should be checked for a possible navicular (scaphoid) fracture or distal radius. If x-rays are negative one may consider tendinitis as a possibility as well. However, navicular fractures may sometime not show a fracture on first x-ray and the wrist should still be protected with a brace. MRI of the wrist may be needed later if in pain.
