Gout Attack Reason: Uric acid that produces gout is a normal breakdown product of purines (nucleic acids) in our bodies.A gout attack is caused by an excessive buildup of uric acid in the blood stream. Daily uric acid is filtered by the kidneys and passed through our urine. Over a certain concentration, the uric acid crystals leave the blood and collect in a susceptible area (like an arthritic big toe joint).

Uric acid: Most commonly, uric acid production is elevated from diet or its excretion is reduced from kidney impairment or diuretic rx. Enzyme defects can also elevate uric acid.
