Patient material: Almost all lab tests are done on blood, urine, sputum or other body fluid from a patient. Some examples are blood culture for infection, Presence of antibodies to HIV, other examples being thyroid function tests, Blood group of the patient, genetic tests for inherited disorders. Tests done on the whole patient are usually X-ray, CT scan and MRI.
