Benzodiazapines: usually have a pretty rapid action - however, anxiety can often respond to non-pharmacologic options. Other medications like SSRI's or Buspar (buspirone) can also be effective without the potential for tolerance.

I was prescribed Buspirone as a as needed basis. I questioned this and told it was fast acting and would help anxiety symptoms in the moment but for on going therapeutic effectiveness it would be prescribed as a routine medication. Is this true?
Actually I am now on la ritalin and its worse than short acting. No improvement after a month. I've had general and social anxiety since I was 12 (it comes and goes) and no anxiety, depression medication nor behavioral therapy ever helped.
