A member asked:

Can you tell me anti-infective, dis-infectant, and antibiotic differences and functions.?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Microbiology 101: 1- an anti-infective is an agent that kills an infectious organism (think antibiotics, like penicillin) 2- a disinfectant is a substance (i.e. bleach) that kills microorganisms, typically those contaminating an area like a counter top 3-antibiotics are medications that are designed to kill infectious pathogens which are causing disease. Hope this helps. A microbiology text can probably answer more
