What are the ethical/religious/cultural issues with bionic ears?

Cochlear implants: During the 1990's, there were "ethical concerns" about treating babies born deaf with cochlear implants that would enable them to hear because "the Deaf are a separate culture" -- which is true. But today these kids -- who now enjoy music, attend regular schools, do jobs like anyone else, and be friends with anybody -- are universally pleased that they are not deaf. The "controversy" is over.

I do not think : this question belongs here, perhaps on a science fiction site. As far as I know there are no such things as bionic ears. If you believe there are, you may want to speak with a psychiatrist.
