Hyperinflation: Hyperinflation is a term used when there is over inflation of the lung. This may be reported on X-rays or noted on PFT's. The definition of compliance is change of volume over change in pressure. In emphysema you have high compliance/distensibility and hyperinflation. In fibrosis you have low compliance and distensibility without over inflation.
