A member asked:

Six weeks post tlif and developed moderate allodynia on top of foot. is this cns or pns nerve damage? is regeneration possible? if so, how long?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Can improve: Painful sensory changes in the lower extremity following back surgery are likely manifestation of stretching of the nerve root. This is a condition known as neuropraxia. This can improve, and may take up towards 12 to 18 months. Beyond that, improvement is not likely. Medications like Neurontin (gabapentin) may help minimize painful sensations. Certainly you should discuss with your surgeon.
