A member asked:

Does taking a higher dose of synthroid (thyroxine) mean your thyroid is working even less? like going from 150 to 200 mcg?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly: For most people, a full replacement dose of Synthroid (thyroxine) would be 125 to 150 mcg daily. Once you are above 150 mcg, the more likely explanation is that you are not absorbing the drug well. You must take it on an empty stomach and wait at least 40 min. before eating. Don't take other meds, vitamins or supplements for a few hours.
