Benign liver disease: Alpha feto protein is produced in the fetus and becomes elevated in certain testicular tumors. It is a fairly good tumor marker indicating that while it can normally be present in cirrhosis of the liver in elevated levels, it becomes highly expressed in hepatocellular carcinoma of the liver which is a complication of cirrhosis. Patient should have a liver scan and testicular exam.
