58yo confused: Based on the limited information - doubt the bs is causing issues. The lung infection is worrisome. Chest x-ray? Pneumonia? Also the oxygen saturation can be relatively normal but still hypoxic. Ask the doctors to check an arterial blood gas. Also - sepsis can cause acute confusion - from pneumonia. Something is going on and the docs need to look closer at things.

Delirium: Delirium is essentially brain failure and is caused by a variety of things. What you described - infection and metabolic disturbance while being in the hospital are all risk factors for delirium. The best treatment is to treat the underlying cause (the infection and glucose control).
