Would an mri pick up most nerve problems. burning / prickly symptoms in legs but mri shows no problems.

Not always: Mri is great to look at the anatomy an see if something is touching or involving a nerve . Things like inflammation may not be seen. Small vessel disease may not be shall we say large enough to be seen. Mri doesn't get down to the microscopic level.
