What kind of pain: Are you still having pain in your knee? Opioid medications such as oxycodone generally help with post surgical pain but only for a finite amount of time. If you had surgery in september and are still in pain, then medication is not likely the solution. Speak with your doctor about other options or get a second opinion.

Diagnosis first!: Your doctor is absolutely right. You must not take any pain medication without the diagnosis, not even an oral anti-inflammatory medication, and definitely not narcotic medication. Narcotics will slowly kill you. There are many ways to treat your knee pain, however – diagnosis first!

Knee surgery: In situations like this, it is important to communicate with your doctor and find out why he/she won't prescribe a particular medication. Most doctors do not advocate keeping a young person on narcotic type pain medications for an extended period of time as a matter of patient safety.
