GERD: Sounds like gastro-esophageal reflux disease . Essentially the acidic gastric contents passing up into the distal esophagus due to an incompitent esophageal gastric junction. The distal esophagus has a different tissue lining than the stomach and can't tolerate the acidic reflux and this causes burning sensation.
