If under 2 mths old: In infants under 2 months old, a fever over 100.4 rectal is a medical emergency. The child may gave a life threatening illness. After 2 months of age, a fully vaccinated child is more likely to have a routine viral illness than something serious. If your baby us under 2 months old, call your doctor for any abnornal rectal temperatures. Do not trust an ear, skin, or armpit temperature.
