Should i have a potassium test for ic before a scope to rule out endometrosis ? urologist done a bladder scope and thinks mild ic .

Dr. James Lin answered

Probably unnecessary: Clinical diagnosis of ic is usually made through detailed history, urinalysis, physicals including bi-manual digital vaginopelvic exam, and cystoscopy. The use of potassium test for diagnosing ic is controversial and adds limited weight to ic dignosis; so it's optional probably unnecessary. If endometriosis is suspected, laparoscopy is the way to confirm it.
