Herpes is complex: The details depend on things like: Oral or genital herpes? How diagnosed (blood test, PCR, culture)? New infection or older infection recently diagnosed? Symptoms (many painful sores? fever? swollen glands;? just one or two sores?) Partner(s) or exposed person(s)? Virus type (HSV1 vs HSV2)? All these are important in deciding on treatment, suppressive therapy, what to say to partners, etc.
