Now: You should get a blood test now, but then repeat it in 3 to 6 months, to make sure (sometimes the blood test takes up to 6 months to become positive).

I'm 52, never tested for hepatitis C should I get the blood test? No high risk behaviors that I can recall

Better to get tested: Many people have hep c and are not aware. It is important to get tested since, the infection may be treatable and prevent liver damage.

Perhaps.: Standard liver-related chemistry blood tests can be normal. Early in infection, the antibody test for hcv can still be negative but one may detect hcv RNA in the blood (hcv viral load).

Right away: Hepatitis does not give symptoms until far advanced. Get tested right away. If you think you just got infected, the blood test may take a few weeks to become positive.

Depends: It depends on the type of test used for diagnosis. It may take a few weeks to a few months for the test to turn positive from the time of actual infection. You may visit this site for more information in this topic: https://www.cdc.gov/hepatitis/hcv/cfaq.htm
