First of...Relax: A peak flow meter is a device that measures how much air you can blow out. It is not a therapy or treatment. If it is causing you so much anxiety, then stop using it. If you have COPD, it is not a death sentence or the end of the world. There are very effective, easy to use treatments that can make you feel better and live a healthy life. See your doctor to get started on your recovery.

Treatments....: Treatments for COPD include bronchodilator inhalers and sometimes steroid inhalers. If your oxygen level is low, either at rest, with activity or while sleeping, supplemental oxygen can be prescribed. If you are still smoking, you need to quit ASAP and your doctor can help with that as well. See a lung doctor to be sure you are getting the best treatment possible, if you haven't done that already!

Bronchodilators: Peak flow meters do not help with breathing , they measure the flow of the breathing effort. To improve the flow you need to use bronchodilators which open the airways and allow the air to pass through more easily. There are many inhalers that could help and a consultation with your pulmonologist may be a good option to help with finding the right balance of therapy.
