You are 36?: And you are still worried about your doctor telling your parents about your self-harm? Tell your parents yourself, so what your doctor says does not surprise your parents. Let your parents help you. And let your doctor help you too.

Client confidentiall: Client confidentiality is to the patient/ client but by law if harm is expressed to be due to another individual it must be reported. Hipaa laws are in place to protect client information. Anything that is discussed in therapy should be confidential .To release information to your parents you would have to sign a release of information disclouser. If not, no infomation should be given out.
