A member asked:

I don't know how well anyone can answer this, but if a patient were to come in and the doc discovered the patient (17 or younger) self harmed, would they have to notify the parents?

Self-harm : I think the person who self-harms should realize that asking the question about self-harm is a way to ask for help. That is a great step. Realizing the self-concern about self-harm means the person wants help and so it would be best to discuss it with the doctor when alone, away from the parent. The fear of being discovered by the parent should also be discussed. I wish you the best of health.
