Sedimentation rate: ESR=erythrocyte sedimentation rate. This is a very non-specific lab test that has some degree of correlation with inflammatory processes that alter the inter-cellular reactivity between red cells in the blood. If markedly elevated then careful evaluation for the causes should be sought. Moderate elevation may just be transient or relatd to anemia.
