Over the counter: Just antiinflammatories and warm salt-eater rinses. Periocoronitis is the term used when this is happening around a partially erupted tooth, usually in the back. Please don't mistake this for gum disease which is a whole different entity.

Pericoronitis: Happens when the gums behind your wisdom teeth or back teeth become infected. If the pericoronitis is mild, warm salt water rinsing and oral hygiene will temporary solve the problem. If your gums, jaw, and cheek are swollen and painful you should see a dentist asap for imaging and treatment with antibiotics. Take care.
