A member asked:

Can you tell me what number of alcoholics can actually quit drinking and live a productive life?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: on which study you read about which population. Alcoholism is not monolithic, and some people do very well, and others not so much. If you pool several of the largest studies, you come up with about 2/3 of patients - 60% - who are treated for alcoholism will make a good recovery, although it may take several tries at it. However, most never get treatment and there is no data on them.
