Pretty quick: Very close range shotgun wounds are devastating injuries; the full load of energy and the pellets or slug destroy extensive amount of tissue. If directed to the middle of the chest, usually nearly immediate death. If to the lungs only, may survive if treated. From 10-15 ft away the pellets spread out & loose energy; less severe. Dick Cheney is probably grateful for the poor ballistics of spheres.
