Ossicular chain: The middle ear is an air-filled space inside the temporal bone, which is part of the skull. The ossicles (malleus, incus, and stapes) are suspended in the middle ear space by tiny ligaments and 2 small muscle tendons. They are connected to one another by tiny joints.
