Focus spasm: Pseudomyopia is a temporary focus spasm of the ciliary muscle causing a shift toward nearsightedness. It is common in young adults who have active accommodation especially after preparing for an exam, or a change in occupation. It can also have organic causes. The diagnosis is made with a cycloplegic refraction during which the focus spasm will go away but real myopia will remain.
