A member asked:

What is the disk prolapse operation?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

See below: The purpose of this operation called a discectomy is to remove the fragment of disc that is pressing on the nerve. Often it can be a minimally invasive surgery but sometimes, the entire disc is removed, a disc spacer is then placed between the vertebral bones and a fusion is performed with bone graft and often with metal hardware to hold things in place until the bone fuses.
