Are you a diabetic?: Some diabetics will develop a condition called gastroparesis which causes gastric retention. You might also have a pyloric spasm or narrowing. Please see your family physicisan to get a referral to a gastroenterologist.

Gastroparesis: Unless there is a mechanical blockage at the outlet of your stomach, your stomach's failure to empty properly is due to a dysfunction of the nerves involved in emptying the stomach. This can be seen in diabetics. There are medications which improve stomach emptying(reglan, erythromycin) but a gastroenterologist is best to evaluate, advise and treat you.
