Acne oral antibiotic: Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole is effective in the treatment of severe acne. However, its use is limited by the potential for bone marrow suppression and for the development of severe immune-mediated drug eruptions such as toxic epidermal necrolysis. Oral antibiotics should be used for a limited course, ideally up to 12 to 18 weeks. Other antibiotics like tetracyclines can be used.
