Not long: Hiv does not typically live very long outside it's host, mainly because it requires a temperature of 98.6 degrees, give or take a degree or two, to survive and flourish. It can live anywhere from several minutes to a few hours on surfaces, depending on the surface and the environmental conditions. Many soaps, bleach, and peroxide will kill the virus on surfaces. Beware of used syringes, however.
