Multiple reasons: There are many possibilities but one common cause of your symptoms is a condition called "post nasal drip". Basically secretions from your nasal cavity run down your throat while sleeping. Sometimes, anti-histamine medications can help. Other conditions such as gastroeshophageal reflux and ashtma can also present like this. Speak with your doctor for a proper history.
