Hyperventilation?: Numbness of the lips along with acral parasthesias (tingling in the hands and feet) is often due to hyperventilation syndrome. Breathing too deeply and or too rapidly causes one to 'blow off' carbon dioxide, resulting in a rise in your blood ph this in turn affects the binding of calcium at sites in the nerve cells causing altered function. Try rebreathing technique when it occurs.
