what could cause sharp pain in the middle right side of my back? hurts when i move, yawn, but it's not the muscle because i've tried rubbing it.

Probably muscular: Probably muscular, can ask for a referral to physical therapy for a few weeks.
Also need to consder that is might come from the neck. Yawning causes you to tilt you head back, and the cervical extension might exacerbate facetogenic pain referring to the mid back.
Recommend seeing a physician for further evaluation.
