Unusual to have: These symptoms after umbilical hernia surgery. Please consult with your original surgeon to make sure that you don't have any recurrence of hernia or entrapped nerve.

Nonspecific : Many people have a variety of mild sensations in and around the area where a her is repair was performed for years. Usually they are not serious. If the symptoms are severe, limit activities, or persistent, you should have an exam by a primary care provider, or ideally your surgeon. Hope this helps!

Small pieces?: What small pieces are sticking out ? Mesh ? Stitch? It's possible that you tore something that could lead to a recurrence but if there is no bulge or obvious hernia sticking out than you are probably ok. Bruising and muscle strain can feel the same way. And 'tightness' can be confused with pain. Tightness is normal, see the surgeon who did it to evaluate
