During an umbilical hernia repair, where is the incision and what is the downtime?

Two Options: Some surgeons repair the hernia by making an incision on top of the hernia. Some surgeons repair it laparoscopically with incisions along your side. Downtime for both is about the same. Every surgeon has differing restrictions after. Mine are simple. No heavy lifting greater than 10 lbs for two weeks. Otherwise live your normal life.
