No Trauma?: If no trauma one possibility is parsonage turner syndrome (acute idiopathic brachial plexopathy) its uncommon but i see one or two cases a year. You've pretty much described the acute presenting symptoms. I think you should see a neurologist if there is no reason to suspect traumatic injury of the shoulder itself.
