Loss blood supply: Gangrene, especially of the lower extremity is not uncommon. It is mainly the effect of loss of blood supply such as thrombosis or narrowing in femoral vessels of the leg. With severe infection one can destroy the local blood supply to a minor structure such as the toes which will become gangrenous.
