Try this...: When your jaw feels tight, wet two wash cloths with warm (not hot) water, wring them out and hold them to the side of your face over your joints.

Seek cause: Jaw locking usually due to muscle spasm or disc displacement. Dr Aronowitz's suggestion about warm compresses is excellent. If problem persists see Orthodontist for evaluation of your occlusion.

Serious jaw problem: Jaw locking is a potentially serious problem. Likely disk displacement in the jaw joint. See a TMJ expert to sort out the possibilities. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD, your dentist and your dental society for referrals.
