Lockjaw: It depends on the cause. It can be due to tetanus, an infection which can be very serious, or it can be due to a displaced TMJ disc, which can be painful but not serious. In either case, it causes an inability to open the mouth, or what we call a closed lock.

Unable to open: Most joint problems are a mechanical problem where the cartilage in the joint becomes displaced and gets in the way of opening. Left dislocated, the structures just take a beating and deteriorate. Conservative means are always best to see if you can find a better functional position and allow the joints to recover (fibrocartilage can heal some). Get professional help or a referral for help.

See oral surgeon.: True "lockjaw" is from tetanus bacteria entering your body: Spasms and stiffness in your jaw muscles, stiffness of your neck muscles, difficulty swallowing, stiffness of your abdominal muscles. I'm assuming you mean you jaw stuck. Can either be do jaw out of socket or problem with disk in jaw joint. In any event, see an oral surgeon to help you with diagnosis and treatment.
