TMD\TMJ: Take some nsaids if you can-advil, motrin, aleve; apply moist hot towel to outside of face opposite jaw joint; stick on soft diet; no gum chewing; see a dentist as soon as possible (preferably one trained and experienced in tmd diagnosis and treatment).

Oral surgeon: See an oral surgeon. You jaw may have a locked disk and need jaw manipulation. Also consider seeing a TMJ expert. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD, your dentist and your dental society for referrals.
