Plan: make a list of 5 things you can do instead. examples might be: "when i feel like cutting i will:" 1. call my best friend 2. listen to music 3. take 10 deep breaths 4. play with my pet 5. do ten pushups and ten sit ups.

Work with a therapis: A good DBT therapist will help you learn ways to manage your urges including distracting , self-soothing, identifying triggers, among other methods. You may get help putting together a "toolbox" of strategies to avoid harming yourself.
