Mechanism of Botox: Botulinum toxin (onabotulinum toxin type a) blocks certain chemical signals that cause muscles to contract. Injections result in paralysis or relaxation of the muscle. The effect is temporary and treatment will need to be repeated in 3- 6 months. Injections are fda approved for treatment of blepharospasm, wrinkles, lazy eye, cervical dystonia, migraines, upper limb spasticity, underarm sweating.
