Specializes in Plastic Surgery

Earfold = an implant: Earfold is a curved piece of metal that is inserted under the skin and in front of the ear cartilage. It is meant to form an antihelical fold when it is absent to correct certain types of prominent ears. The gold standard is surgical correction, which can be done under local or anesthesia. Not familiar: Prominent ears are common and can be quite normal. If the prominence is so great that it is bothersome to your appearance, there is a very routine procedure called otoplasty to improve the appearance. This is a common minor surgical procedure for both children and adults and can yield a great boost in self confidence. For newborns there are various molds that can help shape the ear without surgery
