Regular bathtime: Newborn skin does not need much fancy care. Bathing your newborn every 3 to 4 days is generally fine and on the other days you can give a quick sponge bath. Typically no lotions are needed on their skin. Babies who have very dry or irritated skin may benefit from use of vasoline or aquaphor.

Newborn skin: Babies do not need lotions or oils on their skin as newborns. Gentle sponge baths with warm water before the umbilical cord falls off, and a couple days after the cord falls off you can give your baby baths every couple of days. Avoid wipes and scented products as they may irritate your babys skin. Pay special attention to the neck and the diaper area!

Baby skin: Keep the skin clean (bathing), keep it moisturized by using hypoallergenic lotions.Use baby soap (avoid harsh, perfumed soaps).

Avoid overwashing: Be sure not to overwash the skin, because that would make the skin too dry and prone to more rashes. After the navel has healed up, a bath with a "baby wash" combination shampoo/soap would be fine. One or two baths a week is plenty. Sometimes, the "baby wash" is only needed on the scalp, in the neck, under the arms, and in the diaper area. Use a lotion/cream when any parts of the baby feel dry.
