Dr. Michael Coogan
Pediatrics 48 years experience
Yes: You should pay attention to her fat intake after weaning, when there is really no need for milk in the diet of any mammal. Current evidence suggests that americans too often choose foods high in fat and cholesterol that leads to increased risk of heart disease. Encourage high quantities of fruits and vegetables, use only skim milk, and consider meatless, eggless meals several times a week.

2000: It really depends on your starting weight. If you are at ideal body weight then you may need to increase your calories/day by 300 which is half of a very small peanut butter and jelly sandwich. If you are overweight then you should not increase your calories/day and focus on eating unprocessed diet of vegetables and fish.

Dr. Robert Kwok
Pediatrics 33 years experience
Yes: Beetroot juice is a type of vegetable juice. Occasional drinking of beetroot juice, other vegetable juices, or fruit juices is fine. Too much of any one kind of food or juice can cause problems. One should visit a primary care doctor before drinking too much of any one type of juice, just to be sure the ingredients (such as minerals, salts, sugars, etc...) won't end up harming the person.

A 31-year-old male asked:

How to effectively calculate the calorie intake?

2 doctor answers3 doctors weighed in
Dr. Philip Rosenblum
Family Medicine 28 years experience
Write it down: Keeping track of your caloric intake is simple, diligent accounting. Write down every that passes your lips except water. Measure or weigh what you cook or prepare at home. There are tables available on the internet or in books to list the calories in foods. All prepared foods have calorie values listed somewhere, whether on the packaging or in the restaurant. You just have to keep good records.
